Wool Fibers
Drawing inspiration from my childhood spent crafting felted rings with my mother on the dining room kitchen. Boko is a wet felted luminaire that ties my past to my current craft. With more experience and technique the lamp serves to show my growth, as the wool was meticulously manipulated to illuminate the light into different shades. Beyond its aesthetic charm, the wool also acts as a natural diffuser, softening the harshness of the bulb’s light and infusing the room with a warm, comforting glow.
I made this lamp in the comfort of my very own bathtub. I first cut a cardboard template of the shape of the light fixture and then carefully placed the wool over it. After I evened out the thickness of the wool, I rubbed the fibers together with warm water and soap to stiffen the material so it can hold its shape without a structure. Finally, I threaded the wire through the point and covered it by more felt, to hide the electric components.
